Prices and installation times for hurricane accordion shutters have been on a steady rise since the beginning of the pandemic for the entire hurricane accordion shutter industry across the United States.

Aluminum Prices Skyrocket as Supply Chain Issues Worsen
The supply chain issues we’re experiencing due to the pandemic have crippled many industries worldwide, from lumber to computer chips, and now, accordion shutters. Aluminum prices globally have skyrocketed 78% since the pandemic started, and it’s becoming more difficult and costly to ship aluminum as we are facing unprecedented shortages of shipping containers and a lack of labor globally across all industries from mining operations, refining centers, shipping, and logistics, and even distribution centers. The price of a shipping container has skyrocketed over the last year, from $3,000 to over $20,000.
Hurricane Accordion Shutter Prices Expected to rise by 30% through 2022
We have tried our best to keep our accordion shutters as affordable as possible for the last 30 years, and we typically outperform all of our competitors in quality, workmanship, and pricing. It’s unfortunate to announce that earlier this year, we had a meeting with our Aluminum partner, and they informed us that prices are increasing again at the end of this year, and we had to make a difficult decision to increase our prices by around 10-15% at the end of this year.
Accordion shutter prices are likely to increase from the beginning to the middle of 2022 as the cost of aluminum continues to rise and demand for aluminum continues to skyrocket.
Accordion Shutters likely to face supply shortages due to Aluminum availability
Our timelines for hurricane accordion shutters will likely increase in the next few months due to variability in the availability of aluminum and other building materials. It is taking us longer to receive shipments, and if the supply chain issues we are experiencing continue, or demand for aluminum increases, it could take months to receive the material needed to manufacture and install hurricane accordion shutters for our customers.
Buy Accordion Shutters before 2022 for the best chance of receiving hurricane protection before hurricane season
The peak season for the hurricane accordion shutter industry starts around mid-January, with our typical timeline for accordion shutter installs being around 6 to 10 weeks, but when a hurricane hits, it could take 3 to 6 months from the date of purchase. But, due to uncertainty in the availability of aluminum, timelines across the industry are likely to increase. Floridians can expect a challenge getting their hurricane protection in time for the hurricane season.
We are urging all Floridians without hurricane protection to get the process started as soon as possible as once a rush in aluminum demand happens around mid-January, it might be challenging to get your hurricane protection in time for the start of hurricane season. Even raw materials such as lumber/plywood are in short supply. The price of plywood alone has risen by around 200% over the last year, making emergency hurricane protection solutions costlier and more difficult to find than they have ever been in the past.
